Opposition Spokesperson Supports TAFE Refurbishment
May 2008
Overcoming skills shortages through training was the hot topic for Chadstone last week, when the opposition spokesperson for Education and Training came to offer his support for local training provider, GippsTAFE.
Peter Hall was visiting the Chadstone Campus of GippsTAFE, home to the purpose built Energy Training Centre, which provides accredited training for the electricity, gas and telecommunications industries throughout Australia.
According to Dr. Peter Whitley, CEO of GippsTAFE, the purpose of the visit was to discuss the refurbishment of the ageing campus.
“The Chadstone Campus is a fantastic resource for the utility sectors of Australia, but there is no doubt that the facility is getting older,” Dr. Whitley said.
“The time has come to look at strategies we can put into place to ensure that we can continue to deliver high quality training well into the future.”
At a morning meeting attended by GippsTAFE staff and representatives of industry leaders such as Powercor, Alinta and SP AusNet, Mr. Hall expressed his support for the refurbishment of the Chadstone Campus.
“As skills shortages come to have an increased effect on the electricity, gas and telecommunications sectors, industry focussed training has never been more important,” Mr Hall said.
“Investing in the sustainability of facilities such as the Chadstone Campus is vital if we are to continue to provide the community with high quality services from the utility sector.”
