GippsTAFE Students Mean Business
June 2008
GippsTAFE Business Studies students are ready to take their skills to the streets, following an employability skills workshop in Morwell last week.
Hosted at the Waratah Training Restaurant, the professional development day focused on providing students with the skills needed to showcase their skills and develop job opportunities in their chosen career.
According to GippsTAFE Teacher and event coordinator, Kay Cousins, the annual event is designed to show students how to maximise their training to achieve real results.
“It is really important to ensure that our students have all of the skills they need to succeed beyond the classroom,” Kay explained. “A big part of that is giving them advice about how to approach potential employers.”
The event included three guest speakers, who offered expert tips on how to write attention grabbing resumes, prepare applications that get you noticed, and make a great first impression when it really counts.
“Each year, the professional development day proves to be extremely beneficial for our students,” Kay said. “By attending this session, they can hear from career and image consultants who are experts in their field and learn what they need to do to improve their opportunities in today’s competitive workforce.”
The popular event has proven to be so successful that GippsTAFE is looking at ways of incorporating similar professional development activities into other departments.
