Courses offered at GippsTAFE Academy (Traralgon)
The GippsTAFE Academy is the newest of six locations for Central Gippsland Institute of TAFE and is an exciting addition for the Institute.
This multi-million dollar facility was funded by the Australian Government and Central Gippsland Institute of TAFE and is located in the heart of the Traralgon at the “T” intersection of the Princes Highway and the southern end of Franklin Street. The remarkable facade and building interior were designed by SLAP Architects of Bairnsdale and constructed by Kirway Constructions, Traralgon.
The complex consists of a Flexible Learning and Innovation Room (FLAIR); general purpose classrooms; and student amenities including a “coffee/tea bar” style break area and, on the second floor, a larger cafe area connecting to an alfresco style decking space.
Each of the classrooms is equipped with touch screens, digital whiteboards and wireless connectivity, enabling students at the GippsTAFE Academy access to contemporary technology and learning resources.
An impressive conference centre with kitchen and breakout rooms is available for hire by local businesses for functions, meetings, teleconferencing and specialist training.
The GippsTAFE Academy is a significant expansion for GippsTAFE and aims to increase access and opportunities for further study across the Gippsland region. The emphasis of this new facility is on the provision of higher education courses and pathways to university degrees through agreements with universities including Monash University and the University of Ballarat.
The building also hosts the GippsTAFE Employment and Transitional Training (GETT) Centre, focussed on assisting those facing barriers to traditional education and employment to overcome these challenges and reach their full potential.
The centre’s unique facilities are specifically designed to meet the needs of GETT Centre training programs and include a fully functional life skills training facility with home kitchen, laundry and household training scenarios. The centre is also home to a team of dedicated staff committed to assisting clients to gain appropriate training as well as suitable and sustainable employment within the local community.
This valuable community resource will benefit enormously from these extensive new facilities and improved accessibility of bus and rail services for its clients.
