Application - How to Apply for GippsTAFE Courses

GippsTAFE offers ease of access to its programs via the following 2 methods of application:

  1. Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre (VTAC)
  2. Direct Application

Application via the Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre (VTAC)

What is VTAC?
The Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre (VTAC) acts on behalf of participating Universities, TAFE Institutes and independent Tertiary Colleges, facilitating and coordinating the joint selection system.
Applications and documentation are received from applicants, processed and forwarded on to the chosen Institutions. Once course authorities have made offers for course places, VTAC sends an offer letter to the applicant.

VTAC has 2 main categories of applicants:

  1. Current Year 12 students
  2. Non- Year 12 applicants

Application processes do differ between the 2 categories regarding the method of application. Please refer to the VTAC Guide (available at a small cost from Newsagents) or visit the VTAC web site, located at www.vtac.edu.au for further VTAC application details.

Direct Application

Direct application methods can differ from department to department, but generally direct application to a GippsTAFE course requires contact being made with the Department offering the course you are interested in.

A staff member from your selected department will provide you with details of the course you are interested in, and clarify with you any pre-requisites or other requirements you may have to meet prior to enrolment in the course of your choice. These pre-requisites or other requirements may include the achievement of a certain Secondary school level qualification, age, folio or police check to name a few.

If you have met all pre-requisites and/or other requirements, you may be invited to enrol in your selected program.

Formal enrollment consists of the completion of a GippsTAFE enrolment form, and payment of fees. It should be noted that a prospective student is not classified as an enrolled student until full payment of fees is made, or other financial arrangements for the payment of fees has been authorized by the Institute.

Fee Payment Methods

Prospective GippsTAFE students can organize the payment of fees via the following methods:

  • Cash
  • Cheque
  • EFTPOS
  • Money Order
  • Invoice

Please note: prospective GippsTAFE students whose fees are to paid via an invoice from a third party will be required at the time of enrolment to provide formal documentation from the third party that clearly identifies such.Application and Enrolment for Apprentices and Trainees

An Apprenticeship or Traineeship is a Training Contract between an employer and an employee, in which the employer provides training and the Apprentice/Trainee learns the occupation or trade.

Apprentices and Trainees can be of any age, and can be employed on a full time or part time basis, (subject to appropriate industrial relations arrangements)

Once you have successfully gained employment as an Apprentice or Trainee your employer will enroll you with a Registered Training Organisation, (RTO), such as GippsTAFE, to undertake the off-the-job training component of your Apprenticeship or Traineeship.

The RTO will then, in conjunction with the employer and Apprentice or Trainee, develop a Training Plan, which will outline the competencies that should be achieved during your Apprenticeship or Traineeship.

If you are an Apprentice or Trainee, your employer will generally contact an RTO to organize your off-the-job training, and arrange for the payment of appropriate fees.

Enrolment fees that are paid directly by the Apprentice or Trainee can generally be claimed back within your tax. Please visit the Australian Taxation Office web site, located at http://www.ato.gov.au/ for additional details regarding claims for training purposes.
