VET in Schools

What is VET?
VET (Vocational Education and Training) provides hands-on, practical training, which provides students with work-ready skills for their career or qualifications to help towards their further education goals.
What is VET in Schools?
VET courses are completed by high school students as part of their senior secondary certificate and in many cases contributes towards a student's ENTER score.
This alternative pathway gives students the opportunity to complete industry focussed training in addition to traditional school subjects.
The program has been so successful that more than 95% of Australian secondary schools now offer VET in Schools programs to their students.*
* According to the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR)
How can VET in Schools benefit students?
Students who enrol in VET in Schools not only develop new skills and knowledge, but may also earn credit towards a nationally recognised qualification.
Through VET in Schools, students can work towards a Certificate II or III qualification. Students may exit the course with a full qualification, or a statement of attainment.
This qualification can give students a great head start, potentially increasing their employability by developing real work skills and providing pathways into further education, particularly at TAFE.
Greater recognition of VET in Schools qualifications is now being given for university entrance purposes. Students who are interested in university study should check with their career adviser to find out how VET in Schools courses can count towards university entrance requirements.
