Please note: The Bachelor of Teaching (Early Childhood Education) is a University of Ballarat qualification delivered by GippsTAFE.

The Bachelor of Teaching (Early Childhood Education) degree prepares teachers for prior-to-school education, and also offers opportunities for qualified Early Childhood Educators in the early childhood field to achieve professional status as a teacher. 


The degree aims to develop understandings about the diversity and social contexts of early childhood education with a strong focus on pre-school education.


A blended approach to learning is utilised during the course combining online delivery with on-campus workshops at the GippsTAFE Academy.

This program aims to:

• Link theoretical and practical aspects of teaching and learning in early childhood settings
• Develop communication, organisational and management skills
• Build upon and maintain partnerships between early childhood settings and the university
• Develop skills in research, critical thinking, problem solving and reflection

Entry Requirements

Applicants are required to have completed a Diploma of Children’s Services or an approved equivalent.

Applicants whose previous qualification is older than eight years will be invited to submit additional supplementary material related to professional experience.

To enter a University of Ballarat Undergraduate Program you must satisfy the academic performance, age requirement and English language proficiency of the University.

Assessment

A range of assessment tasks will be undertaken during this program including written reports, essays, assignments, case studies, tests, group projects and oral presentations.

Opportunities For Further Study

Students are eligible upon completion of this program to undertake a Graduate Diploma and/or Masters in Early Childhood.

Successful applicants are required to apply for a Police Check and Working with Childrens Check (WWCC) before commencing their program. A copy of the Police Check and WWCC card must be supplied to the University prior to completing professional experience placements.

Course Times

The program is offered through flexible delivery, combining online/distance learning and face-to-face teaching during weekend intensives, which are delivered at the GippsTAFE Academy in Traralgon.

Each year of study has a particular theme, developing candidates as they move through the program to become professional educators, responsible for making decisions, solving problems and guiding staff. The three themes are:

• Changing Perspectives (thinking like a teacher)
• Developing strategies (working like a teacher)
• The Teacher as a Professional (being perceived as a teacher)
