Course Overview

This course is designed for ACMA Registered Cablers carrying out underground cable installation and maintenance. The course consists of:

• Occupational Health and Safety
• Locate and describe underground construction 
• Duct construction 
• Underground cable types 
• Site excavation 
• Pit and pipe installations 
• Determine priority of service 
• Cable hauling 
• Joint location (min. 50 pr cable) 
• Joint enclosure and fit underground cable 
• Test cable joint 
• Replace service 
• Working environment hazard identification 
• Safe working environment 
• Appropriate procedures for manual handling

Qualifications And Recognition

Upon completion of this course, students will be issued with a Statement of Attainment.

Entry Requirements

All customer cabling work in the telecommunications, fire, security and data industries must be performed by a registered cabler. All cablers are required to register with an Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) – accredited registrar. (see pre-requisites)

Assessment

Assessment is competency-based for each unit. It includes:

• Practical assessment (observation/demonstration) in a simulated environment
• Written assessments
• RPL (Recognition of Prior Learning) for suitable applicants

Opportunities For Further Study

These units form part of the Certificate III in Telecommunications (Cabling). They are also Endorsements to the Open Registration which can be registered on ACMA Cabling Licence.
