Course Overview
This course is designed for people with nil or minimal experience in the Telecommunications network who wish to gain the skills to work as a cable jointer on non-working cables within the carrier network and customers premises.The course (within industry known as Cable Jointing-Basic) consists of:- Introduction to basic electrical principles
- Distribution cables
- Rotational and connected pairs
- Plan reading
- Preparing cables for jointing and Cable jointing
- Joint enclosures/Connector jointing
- Working cable precautions
- Test handset (Buttinski) and basic test instruments
- Cable pair ID sets, F set and loop-a-line, GP set
- Lines Test Set No 2
- Fault conditions
- Cross Connecting Units
- 31D pole enclosure
- Heat shrink openable joint
- Re-entry into gel-sealed cables
- Quality assurance
- Dangerous gases and gas detection Sharps/Asbestos awareness
