Course Overview

This course is designed for ACMA Registered Cablers carrying out aerial cable installation and maintenance. The course consists of:

• Occupational Health and Safety
• Pedestrian management 
• Regulated heights and separations  
• Identification of pole and building mounted fittings 
• Aerial cable types and construction  
• Erect and tension aerial cable 
• Installation of pole mounted aerial cable enclosures 
• Installation of facsia mounted enclosures  
• Working environment hazard identification 
• Safe working environment

Entry Requirements

All customer cabling work in the telecommunications, fire, security and data industries must be performed by a registered cabler.  All cablers are required to register with an Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) – accredited registrar. (see pre-requisites)

Assessment

Assessment is competency-based for each unit. It includes:

• Practical assessment (observation/demonstration) in a simulated environment
• Written assessments
• RPL (Recognition of Prior Learning) for suitable applicants

Opportunities For Further Study

These units form part of the Certificate III in Telecommunications (Cabling). They are also Endorsements to the Open Registration which can be registered on ACMA Cabling Licence.
