Course Overview

Whilst studying this course, you will enhance your skills in many areas including solo, ensemble, improvisation, music analysis, music creation for publications, music business and arranging through practical workshops and tutorials. Music performance, musicianship and song writing will also be studied, which will help prepare you for employment in the music industry or further study.
 
The GippsTAFE Music Department offers the added benefit of exposure and networking with other musicians and creative minded people, through the production of events and gigs designed and implemented by students and teachers.

Qualifications And Recognition

Upon successful completion of this course students will be eligible to receive the Advanced Diploma of Music.

Entry Requirements

  • Certificate IV in Music and Diploma of Music or
  • An audition and successful completion of Year 12 (or equivalent), or mature age entry

Pre-Requisites

Successful completion of the Certificate IV Music and Diploma of Music or the successful completion of VCE and a successful audition or qualification as a mature age student and a successful audition.

Specialist Course Information

Audition
You should prepare two contrasting works showing a variety of styles and period on your chosen instrument or voice. As a guide, AMEB Grade 6 or equivalent is an expected minimum entry level. The program presented should be no more than 10 minutes long and the panel will reserve the right to hear selections only.
 
You will also be asked to demonstrate technical work and attempt a sight-reading exercise and some basic aural recognition exercises. A drum kit, piano, microphone, amplifiers and stereo equipment will be provided but not instruments, leads, drumsticks, or accompanists. You may bring an accompanying band, but please advise us so that setup time can be catered for. Alternatively, you may choose to perform solo or with a tape or CD.
 
Interview
You will be asked a series of questions relating to your suitability for the course. You are expected to demonstrate a clear understanding of career goals and aptitude for the course of study including any relevant industry experience. You are welcome to present testimonials and extra-curricular evidence at your interview.
