Apprenticeships and Traineeships
An apprenticeship/traineeship is a training contract between an employer and an employee, in which the employer provides training and the apprentice/trainee learns the trade/occupation. Australian Apprenticeships include both traineeships and traditional trade apprenticeships.

How do I start an apprenticeship/traineeship?
Firstly you will need to secure yourself employment as a trainee or apprentice. There are a variety of ways you could be employed including through an Australian Workplace Agreement or Certified Agreement (or State equivalent). Your employer will have contacted their local Australian Apprenticeships Centre in order to complete and register your traineeship or apprenticeship. Part of this process will be the selection of an appropriate Registered Training Organisation, such as GippsTAFE, which will negotiate to provide your formal training which may be off-the-job, on-the-job, or a combination of both.
What can I do to improve my chances of securing an apprenticeship?
GippsTAFE offers a number of Certificate II Pre-Apprenticeship courses that will provide you with skills and knowledge to increase your chances of securing an Apprenticeship. In some instances these courses provide you with the same off-the-job training as a first year apprentice.
