Hair show success for talented young students
Local hairdressing students from GippsTAFE’s Warragul Campus showcased their talent at a recent end of year show. The exciting event drew a large crowd of over 70 parents, family and supporters, with guests filling the refurbished Warragul Train Station Tea Rooms.
The talented young students sourced their own models for the hair show, there were no formal rules and the students were given free rein to be as creative as they liked. The result was a vibrant and colourful display of hairstyles, make-up and costumes.
It was a tough task for judges Christopher Gratton of Chumba Concept Salon, Jan-Maree Constantine from J-Maree Hairdressing and Pip Griffiths GippsTAFE Warragul Campus Manager. The volunteer judges’ expertise was put to the test as they determined who would take home the top prize for each of the three award categories.
Rebecca Nuttall of Traralgon won the award for ‘Best Overall Look’ taking home the events major prize, a pair of Andis Clippers with three Solis brushes and a voucher for 30% off a pair of professional scissors kindly sponsored by AM Williams Hairdressers’ Supplies.
The award for Best Makeup was presented to Kristen McLeish of Won Wron, who won an impressive hamper stocked with professional products from De Lorenzo.
Sherilyn Emery of Pakenham was awarded the final prize for the event, a collection of styling products from Salon Metro of Pakenham, for Best Hair.
“The quality of the student work was outstanding. It was imaginative, stylish and fitted the briefs accurately. I could not believe that such sophisticated work was from first and second year students. It was a credit to them and their teachers,” said Warragul Campus Manager and event judge, Pip Griffiths.
The event contributed to the students Certificate II in Hairdressing studies and was a real confidence booster for all involved.
The students and staff of the GippsTAFE Hairdressing Department would like to send a big thank you to all the award sponsors, guest judges and guests who made the event such a roaring success.
