GippsTAFE Manager to visit Abu Dhabi

Manager of GippsTAFE’s Leongatha Campus, Mr. Stuart Cooper, will join international colleagues in the United Arab Emirates to take part in a significant educational review. Mr Cooper will journey to Abu Dhabi in May this year.

He will be among a number of educationalists from around the globe offering their service at the request of the Commission for Academic Accreditation, part of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research in the United Arab Emirates. The Commission is responsible for the quality assurance processes associated with institutional licensing and program accreditation.

Educational programs within the region must be individually accredited, to assure prospective learners, their families, and the public that technical and vocational education and training programs offered by institutions licensed in the United Arab Emirates meet appropriate standards, and international best practice. Stuart will participate in this process as a member of an expert committee charged with evaluating a particular program through the detailed examination of institutional documentation and campus visits.

Mr Cooper’s background in the hospitality and tourism industry made him an ideal choice as a participant in the upcoming review. His involvement in the program highlights the high regard in which GippsTAFE and its staff are held, not only locally but internationally.

 “I am delighted to have been nominated by our (GippsTAFE’s) CEO, Dr Peter Whitley, to take part in this program,” said Mr. Cooper.

“Having worked within the Australian Qualifications Framework and our system of nationally accredited training packages, I’m keen to learn more about the approach to licensure and accreditation of technical and vocational education and training in the United Arab Emirates.

 “It is a very exciting opportunity and a wonderful program to be a part of. I am very much looking forward to meeting my fellow review team members in Abu Dhabi soon.”
