'Building Bridges' Youth Program Starts

A successful youth program that helps young people reconnect with learning starts again at GippsTAFE this month (February 2011).

The Building Bridges program is aimed at young people who are at risk of becoming disengaged with the education system.

The program provides a supportive and flexible environment, as well as an experienced professional teaching team, who encourage each student’s learning and provide guidance for future training or job readiness.

“The Building Bridges program qualifies participants in Certificate I in Transition Education and serves as a springboard into further educational opportunities, while also building confidence and self-esteem, and helping to establish a career pathway for each student,” Coordinator Elodie Ryan said.

“We have a very approachable teaching staff, who offer their students quality educational guidance in a supportive framework. We have offered this course since 2003 and have found it enjoyable and rewarding for students.

“Numbers are strictly limited in order to provide a more personally relevant course of study, so those interested need to contact GippsTAFE as soon as possible,” Ms Ryan added.

Classes are run through the Access Centre at the Yallourn Campus. Subjects include Personal Development, General Writing Skills, Recreation and Leisure and modules on Adult Options which include examining individual career paths.
